Who doesn’t love a good summer road trip? Wind in your hair, sunglasses on, singing songs with your friends and family. With the warm weather here, we’re jotting down some of the best top road trip destinations in Central New York.

 

Watkins Glen State Park- Watkins Glen, NY

Just two hours from the Utica area, Watkins Glen State Park in the Finger Lake Region is gorge-ous (see what we did there). As the most famous of the Finger Lakes State Parks and voted third in the country by USA Today Readers Choice Poll for Best State Park in the US, it’s two-and-a-half-mile track leads visitors to under, over, and around 19 different waterfalls. Want to cool off? Take a dip in the Olympic-sized swimming pool! Looking to visit lots of state parks this year? Grab an Empire Pass that gives you unlimited day use entry to most facilities operated by the New York State Parks Department.

 

All Things Oz Museum- Chittenango, NY

Follow the yellow brick road and celebrate the Wizard of Oz in the birthplace of its creator Frank Baum at the All Things Oz Museum, Chittenango, NY. At any given time, there are over 1,200 pieces on exhibit including original props and costumes from various films and musicals, collectibles, and much more! Admission is only $5 for adults and children 10 and under are free!

Old Forge, NY

Take a ride up Route 28 to Old Forge. Enjoy the scenic views as your eyes wander into the Adirondacks. Once you’re there, there’s plenty to do! Want excitement? Head to Water Safari! Need to relax? Rent a kayak or hangout on the lake! Walking around this popular Adirondack village will make shopping for everyone on your list a breeze. There is something for everyone in Old Forge.

Cooperstown, NY

Drive along windy roads and relax your mind on the way to Cooperstown. Visit the Baseball Hall of Fame, the Farmers Museum, and be ready to explore. For lunch, check out Origins Cafe´ where they serve locally sourced fresh paninis and salads inside their plant-filled greenhouse. If arts pique your interest, Glimmerglass Festival is a must!
